This past week we looked at some samples of Andy Goldsworthy's "Earth Art", or Temporary Sculptures in Nature. We talked about the impermanence of some forms of art familiar to us, for example,
sand castles and snowmen. We discussed the importance of documenting this type of art using photography.
The students went outside, it was a beautiful day, and gathered natural objects to create their own "Earth Art" that would be created, documented and, in most cases, swept away, all within 45 min.
We also had a chance to use our new knowledge of negative and positive space to create nice artwork. Once created each student took two photographs of their artwork, simply placed and arranged on top of paper and in some cases giant leaves. Though some students really wanted to take their earth art home, all were encouraged to give their creation back to the woods!
The last ten minutes was spent learning the basics of how to "construct" a nice group shot.
