3rd Grade: A Web of Synonyms

Mrs. Collins' class just finished reading Charlotte's Web. Students jotted down challenging new words from the book. Then, students looked up the synonyms in a thesaurus. Once the students found the synonyms of each word, they wrote sentences using both words. Students were assessed on these three things:

  • Do webs have multiple synonyms for the same word? Can students explain the similarities and differences between the definitions of the synonyms?
  • Are spiders and webs artistically and physically balanced, making  them good examples of installation art?
  • Ask student to reflect on this lesson and write a DREAM statement to summarize most important things they learned.
